Top 5 Summer Essentials

Good morning, today I narrowed down some of my favourite summer items to my top 5. Over the past week the heat has been ridiculous, so I’ve reached for these items A LOT. I hope you enjoy.

1. Sunscreen

This is essential any time of year but especially in the summer because we all tend to spend more time outside and the UV index is much higher. My favourite face sunscreen is *Neutrogena Clear Skin SPF60, it’s great for acne prone or oily skin. For the rest of my body *Coppertone SPF30 or SPF60 are by far my favourite. The only downside to these sunscreens are that neither of them are mineral sunscreens and therefore not reef safe, though I have been looking into new ones I just haven’t found the right one yet.

2. Lotion

This may not be something you think of for summer but when you spend a lot of time in the pool or lake and in the sun then your skin can get really dry and no one wants that. One of my favourites is the *Johnson’s baby lotion because it’s great for sensitive skin and is very affordable. The other one I use when I need something a little thicker is the Gold Bond Eczema relief. Since it’s summer another great options I’ve recently fell in love with is the *Jergens Natural Glow, this works well if you want an all over tan or need to fix some tan lines.

3. Hat

Hats are great for bad hair days and minimizing sun exposure. Floppy hats are really fun and perfect for working in the garden or reading a book at the beach as they create a nice ring of shade. My go to hat is a Nike white baseball cap, I prefer white or light coloured hats because it reflects the sun and keeps my head MUCH cooler than a back one. Another option is a *bucket hat kinda combines a floppy hat and baseball cap. On really hot days, wetting the hat is nice too.

4. Waterproof phone case

Of course you can scroll through Instagram in the pool but for me, a waterproof case is a safety measure when out on the water. The case I have is from winners (*similar ones here), it’s like a fancy ziplock bag with a lanyard. I attach the lanyard to my lifejacket when I’m on the seedoo or kayaking so it’s always safe and close in case of an emergency.

5. Insulated cup or Water bottle

Water. Water. Water. This is so important (again any time of year but especially in the heat). My favourite water bottle is a *Blender Bottle, I also use some random metal/insulated water bottles if I’m going to be outside for a while. The blue marble cup (Pictured BALNK) is an insulated stemless wine glass from winners (*similar one here) and is great for any drink you want to bring outside. Not only does it stay cold but it has a lid so you don’t have to worry about bugs!

Thank you so much for reading. Comment below your summer must haves, maybe I’ll add it to my life!
